How it works: All students in grades 1 through 5 will be encouraged to participate. When students feel they are meeting the Wildcat Pride goals, they will apply for a conference with their teacher. The student will either be given the Wildcat evaluation to complete and gather signatures or will be made aware of the skills they need to work on. For a Wildcat button to be awarded to a student, no checks can be made in the “sometimes” column. (See Wildcat Pride application form). When the designated staff and parent have signed the form, the button will be awarded to the student at an all-school assembly. Buttons may not be issued until five weeks after the start of the program—even to students who are successful at managing their own behavior. This will give all students time to practice and demonstrate their Wildcat Pride skills. Students who have been awarded Wildcat Pride wear their buttons throughout the school day to designate them as responsible citizens. Wildcat Pride Priviledges The primary rewards for earning the Wildcat Pride button are personal accomplishment and the public recognition of good citizenship. The recognition of responsible behavior also may include other special privileges, which could include the following: Being excused first throughout the day. Activity time. Teacher-determined privileges. Being able to travel to and from class unescorted. Losing the Badge: A button may be lost if a student fails to follow through on Wildcat Pride responsibilities, abuses a special privilege, or does something dangerous or harmful to self or others. If such an incident occurs, any staff member may ask for the students button. It will be given to the classroom teacher with an explanation as to why it was taken. When a button is taken from the student, the period of time it will be held will be determined by the classroom teacher. If the problem is severe enough the student may be required to reapply for the Wildcat Pride button. Assemblies: Short assemblies will be held at least once a month to recognize new Wildcat Pride awards. During the short assembly, we will re-emphasize the types of behavior it takes to become a member of the Wildcat Pride. The first assembly will be held after six weeks of school. |
